EDUCATION
Till Achenbach studied law at Friedrich-Schiller-University School of Law in Jena. After taking the First State Exam he received a scholarship from the German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungs-Gemeinschaft) and received his Ph.D. for a dissertation: “Bidder protection in German and US Public Procurement Law”. He clerked for the Berlin Chamber Court (Kammergericht) and worked during that time at a law firm specialized in Public Procurement- and Construction law.
PROFESSIONAL CAREER
After finishing the clerkship in Berlin and receiving his license as Attorney-at-Law (Germany), he joined an international law firm at Frankfurt am Main where he specialized in International White Collar Crime Litigation, US- and International contract law mainly advising clients from the Automotive-, Chemical and Construction Industry. His publications during that time were: “Will the Reform of the Class Action succeed?” (Börsen-Zeitung 24.02.2005, S. 7); “Bidder Protection in US Law” (NZBau 2004, S. 244 f.); “Getting Rich by Snitching? The Whistleblower Bounty Lawsuits in US Law“ (Handelsblatt 05.07.2005, S. 9).
He continued his professional carreer as legal counsel in the German defense industry for Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH, the defense & security business of the Carl Zeiss Corporation, renamed to Airbus DS Optronics GmbH after its acquisition by EADS Germany GmbH (Airbus). During his tenure there, he build up Carl Zeiss’ affiliate company in the United States, Carl Zeiss Optronics USA, Inc. in Raleigh (NC), appointed as CEO, board member and company secretary. His tasks further included the founding of joint-ventures for Carl Zeiss in Algeria and the United Arab Emirates and building its liaison office in India. He was also responsible for the legal affairs of the hand weapon/ scope business of Carl Zeiss, its space business as well as its Procurement- and R&D department.
ACHENBACH LAW OFFICES
As of January 1st 2017, Till Achenbach is the founding partner of Achenbach Law Offices in Weimar. Dr. Achenbach also serves as a General Counsel for a German Engineering Company of the Oil- and Gas Industry and is Lecturer for “International Civil and Commercial Litigation” at Schmalkalden technical college (Hochschule Schmalkalden).
